More From the eDiscovery Buyers Guide Review

In my last blog post, I shared several positive insights about the iCONECT-XERA eDiscovery review software from the 2018 eDiscovery Buyers Guide, volume 2. Here are a couple more.

The reviewers were especially impressed by iCONECT's proprietary Xmplar tool. Using it, reviewers can create a synthetic hot document and have the analytics engine find documents containing similar concepts. This helps reviewers find key documents quickly. There are two use cases for Xmplar that stand out most prominently:

  1. When the richness level (percentage of the document set that is relevant) is low, Xmplar can be used to identify relevant document early, to kick-start the review.
  2. The documents that are conceptually similar to the Xmplar document can be added to the the Predictive Coding (TAR) training set to expedite the training.
The Guide said, "It’s a brilliant concept and an innovative tool for showing lawyers how artificial intelligence can augment their knowledge."

Another unique feature of iCONECT-XERA that was highlighted in the guide is the collaboration tools. The Comments tab contains more than annotation tools. Once a comment is added to a record (whether it's text-based, image or multi-media) the comment is linked to that section of the record, making it easy to jump back to that spot. The user can also send a notification to other users to promote collaboration. The recipients receive an email with the notification, and the notification is added to the recipients' dashboard, so whether they are currently logged on to the system is irrelevant. They still receive the notice.
